Fourth organised visit to the Bregalnica region for a group of Instagram users
On 10 and 11 June we organised the fourth visit to the Bregalnica region for a group of Instagram users with the aim of promoting the region’s natural and cultural values on social media, as well as presenting some of the activities that were implemented as part of the Nature Conservation Programme in North Macedonia.
After a short break on Treshchen Kamen, we continued climbing to the Kadiica peak, at 1932 metres above sea level, at the border with Bulgaria. Our next destination was the site of Vrtena Skala, where we heard the local legend about this place. Hiking along the marked hiking trails by the side of Pehchevska River, we reached the town, from where we arrived at the last location for day one, the apiary of Blagojcho Bozhanoski, member of the Core Group Honey East. During the tasting of honey and honey products, Blagojcho informed us about the latest activities of the only association in the country that applies sustainable beekeeping practices.
We began day two hiking around the Klepalo site, from the border crossing to the shepherd’s hut, where we tried traditional homemade food from the region. Along the route to the shepherd’s hut we passed through an area rich in herbs which can be used for various purposes: St. John’s-wort, thyme, yarrow and lavender. The final part of the tour was reserved for a walk around Berovo Lake and riding a bike on one of the marked trails around Berovo.
