Natural attractions in the Bregalnica region
The Bregalnica region has a variety of natural values: geological, relief, climate, hydrographic, biological and soil. However, with the exception of some, these have no national or broader importance in terms of rarities and uniqueness. The most typical natural values in the EPR are the Lesnovo crater and the entire volcanic relief in its surroundings, the thick forest complexes in Berovo (Malesevo Mountains and Ograzden) as well as the clean, fresh air, the badlands with kukulje (doll-like formations), the rich geothermal basins in Kocani, etc.
The rare natural occurrences, areas and objects have been proposed for protection, so that simultaneously with the development of tourism in the EPR attention should be paid to these unique values that could be easily endangered or destroyed (kukulje, badlands, gorges, rare and endemic species of plants and animals, etc.).
From the aspect of natural resources and values, which have been assessed and valorized in detail in the study on tourism, conducted through the Nature Conservation Programme in Macedonia, these have the greatest tourism potentials:
The Osogovo Mountains with these sites: Ponikva, Carev Vrv – Ruen, Gorna Cera, Gratce, the Zletovska River gorge;
The Malesevo Mountains around Lake Berovo, the springs of Bregalnica, the waterfalls on Bregalnica and the forested belt to Berovo;
The northern face of Plackovica, with Turtel, Lisec and Cengino Kale, then the foot towards Zrnovci, Morodvis, Vunica with the Osojnica gorge;
The Lesnovo cone and crater with the volcanic relief around Probistip and Zletovo;
Kalimanci Lake with the developed coastline, the island of Kalata, Istibanjska gorge, etc.
Golak Mountain with the surroundings of Delcevo, the hunting grounds of the same name, Lake Sandanski, Kukulje, Konjska Dupka cave, the paleontological site near the village of Stamer;
