500 melliferous trees planted in several locations in the Bregalnica region
As part of the Day for Planting Melliferous Plants, the Nature Conservation Programme provided 500 seedlings of honey plants for the members of the Honey East Association. Representatives of the Nature Conservation Programme in North Macedonia, the Macedonian Ecological Society and the Honey East Association on Saturday (26 March 2022) planted oaks, chestnuts, maples and ash trees around Honey East’s development honey bee farm near the village of Moshtica, Makedonska Kamenica. This initiative of the Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association is implemented all over the world with the aim of increasing the available pastures for bees and other pollinators; more than 100 organizations from 25 countries have joined the initiative.
The goal is to raise awareness about the importance of melliferous plants and in the selection process to choose autochthonous, domestic varieties typical for the area where they are planted and not act invasively on other species. This practice of increasing accessible pastures for bees and other pollinators through planting melliferous plants should be implemented by all individuals and organizations, whenever and wherever they can.
