World bee day celebrated
In recent years the number of insect species has significantly dropped and the rate at which insect species are disappearing is so serious that scientists call this “insect apocalypse”. Many insects, including bees, are pollinators, which means that their existence is of key importance for the survival of flowering plants, and thus humankind
For this purpose, the World Bee Day, 20 May, was celebrated at the Educational Centre for Nature Conservation in the village of Negrevo.
The event was organized with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia and the Nature Conservation Programme (NCP), with various activities such as planting melliferous plants, children’s workshop for cooking healthy food, presentation of honey and honey products by the Honey East association, as well as presenting the awards for best paintings and essays from the Bregalnica region on the topic “Bees Mean Life”.
