A workshop for encouraging inter-sector cooperation was organized and the dialogue in the forestry sector was supported by the NCP in Macedonia
On 13 and 14 September, 2016 in Berovo a workshop was held, organized by the Nature Conservation Program in Macedonia, titled: “Regional policy dialogue in the forestry sector: Regional plan for forest management as an opportunity for sustainable forest management in the Bregalnica Region”.
The workshop began with the lectures on forest management planning on a landscape level and forest management planning in Switzerland on national, canton and local level. This continued with a presentation on forest management planning in Macedonia. After the presentations, the participants worked in groups on the same topics and in the end they heard a presentation on the challenges and possibilities of this economic activity.
During the second day of the workshop, the initial findings on the integrated forest management in the upper part of the Bregalnica Region were presented, as well as the summary of the student work related to the topic on regional planning/management. Besides this, various aspects of land use, participatory approach, landscape validation and forest management planning were also reviewed. Regional planning in forest management in Switzerland was presented through the specific example of the Emental region and the proceeds and benefits from sustainable forest management.
Besides the members of the NCP team, presenters at this workshop were also Prof. Jurgen Blaser PhD (Bern University of Applied Science), Dusica Trpchevska-Angjelkovikj PhD (Agency for Spatial Planning of the Republic of Macedonia), Walter Marti, forest engineer representing the Emental Region and Dejan Madzukovski from the Public Enterprise Macedonian Forests.
