Memorandum of cooperation signed for the implementation of the first regional plan for promotion of forests in the Malesevo Region with Action Plan 2020-2025
Today, at the Educational Centre for Nature Conservation in the village of Negrevo, representatives of the Municipality of Berovo, the Municipality of Pehcevo and PE National Forest signed a Memorandum of cooperation for the implementation of the pilot regional plan for promotion of forests in the Malesevo Region with Action Plan 2020-2025. This memorandum defines the cooperation between the three parties for implementation of the measures envisaged in the RPPF in the Malesevo region.
The Regional plan for promotion of forests in the Malesevo Region with Action Plan 2020-2025 is the first regional plan developed for a specific micro region in the country with participative approach of all key stakeholders and taking into account the different functions of forests. This regional plan for promotion of forests was developed as part of the Nature Conservation Programme in North Macedonia (NCP), a project of the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency (SDC), coordinated by Farmahem, and was adopted as a strategic document for forests in the municipalities of Berovo and Pehcevo.
The RPPF in the Malesevo region with Action Plan 2020-2025 is a development strategic plan that would lay the foundations for sustainable management of forests and forests lands in the region. This plan for the Malesevo region is a guideline that sets the course for sustainable management of forests and forest areas in the region based on the three columns of sustainable forest management, i.e. economic value of forests, biodiversity (nature conservation) and socio-economic values.
The signatories of the Memorandum of cooperation stressed that the development of such a comprehensive plan for promotion of forests would contribute to the main objective, that is to support the local population in their sustainable development by using the values of forests in a sustainable manner, while at the same time it would correspond with the general trends in forestry in Europe, which involve spatial planning and landscape management in accordance with pan-European criteria and indicators.
The Regional plan for promotion of forests in the Malesevo Region (Berovo and Pehcevo) with Action Plan 2020-2025 was adopted as a strategic plan at the 33rd session of the Berovo Municipal Council held on 13 May 2020 and the 29th session of the Pehcevo Municipal Council held on 5 May 2020.
