Osogovo is a step away to become the first protected area in the country

The Government of RNM adopted the initiative to protect and declare the Osogovo Mountains a protected area of category V – Protected landscape. The adoption of this initiative is a valuable result of the cooperation that the Nature Conservation Programme (NCP) established with the line ministries, the local authorities, the professional consultants as well as the local population, who will shortly see its home as part of a protected area. The aim of the protected landscape is to protect nature through the protection of traditional historic practices of natural resource management.

In accordance with the legal procedure for proclamation of a protected area, in the period to come there will be public debates with the local population and all stakeholders, and after the viewpoints and remarks are harmonized, a final proposal to proclaim Osogovo a protected landscape will be developed.
