Mountain tourism
Mountain tourism is a broad spectrum of tourist activities which take place in the mountains. Having in mind that 56% of the Bregalnica region is mountainous area and that there are as many as nine mountains, one over 2000 m, it is clear how important mountain tourism is for this region.
The mountains differ in their heights – low up to 1500 m, medium high between 1500 and 2000 m and the Osogovo Mountains over 2000 m, as well as in their values, climate, waters, forests and other biodiversity. In addition, some mountainous areas are sparsely populated, far from the town centres, with preserved natural values (Ograzden, the southeastern part of Plackovica, the western part of the Malesevo Mountains). In fact, of the main types of tourism (lake, urban, lowland, etc.), mountain tourism has the greatest prospect in the Bregalnica region. Almost all six mountains over 1500 m have options for development of various mountain activities, such as trekking or hiking.
