Second Session of Block Lectures at the Faculty of Forestry in Skopje held by Prof. Juergen Blaser PhD from the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences in Bern
The second session of block lectures at the Faculty of Forestry in Skopje by Prof. Juergen Blaser PhD took place in the period from 1 to 3 December 2014. On 1 December 2014, Prof. Juergen Blaser PhD held a lecture at the Faculty of Forestry in Skopje that was attended by more than 40 students, professors and other interested parties on the topic “International Forest Policy on Global Level”. The lecture triggered a discussion on the state of forestry on global level, as well as the state of forestry in the Republic of Macedonia.
On 2 and 3 December 2014, a group of 30 students from the Faculty of Forestry in Skopje had the opportunity to attend the field teachings of the professors Nikolcho Velkovski and Juergen Blaser, and the Master’s student of the Faculty of Forestry in Skopje, Dejan Mandjukovski. The teachings were held at the Osogovo Mountains, Malesh Mountains and the Kalimanci Lake. Topics discussed during this visit included: management and planning of low beech forest, areas planted with evergreen trees, high forest of mixed beech and oak woodland, management of oak plantations used for feeding of domestic animals, as well as anti-erosion measures by planting black pine.
The activities were carried out as part of the intervention for cooperation between the Faculty of Forestry in Skopje and the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences of the Bern University of Applied Sciences from Switzerland within the Nature Conservation Programme in Macedonia.
